Reading
This year we are fortunate to have a new reading series, "Wonders", and we will incorporate literature circles into our weekly routine. Literature circles are groups where students get the opportunity to read and appreciate authentic literature. In these groups the students will read, reflect and respond to a variety of tasks. The groups are student led with teacher check-in/assistance. Groups may and will change throughout the year.
Independent Reading: students are expected to read for a minimum of 20 minutes each night. I expect them to read a total of 25 books during the school year. That however, doesn't mean 25 actual books, each 100 pages counts as 1 book (ex. 375 pg. book = 3 books). Once a book is complete it is recorded on the student's individual reading log and a book slip is completed. The books slips are found below. This averages to 8 books per trimester, once 8 books have been read the student will complete a book project, suggestions are found below in the link "Ways to Share Books". These projects are due at the end of every trimester. They are expected to complete 2 projects for the year. This will count toward 2 reading grades for each quarter, there is no penalty for not reading, however this is used to help boost your child's reading grade. I do not offer extra credit, this is the extra credit!

Book Projects
Once each student has read 8 books and has submitted the corresponding book slips he/she will be required to complete a book project. This project will count as a literature response grade. Click the link below to find a list of possible project ideas.
